For many who are in the initial phases of their improvement journey, Lean methodologies are all that is needed to drive significant change throughout the organization. However, as you continue in your Lean journey, some waste will survive initial Lean efforts and linger unresolved. Our experience has shown that beginning improvement efforts with Lean followed by the incorporation of Six Sigma methodologies can yield greater gains for the organization and help drive improvement for more complex, multivariable issues. Ultimately, the question is not If you will need Six Sigma, but When.
Six Sigma (6σ) is a statistical process improvement toolkit focused on the identification of "Vital Xs" with the ultimate goal of reducing process variation leading to defects. It can be used in complement with the Lean Production System to drive out waste and variation not eliminated through front line problem solving and Kaizen.
Lean Sigma is a new term that has risen in recent years primarily out of companies who whole heartedly went down the 6σ path without first removing much of the waste in their processes. They are now in the process of integrating these systems "in reverse". HPP's model recommends that a Lean Transformation be undertaken first and the 6σ toolkit be introduced as a complimentary tool to the overall process.
Why 6σ Training?
